Through A Child’s Eyes

The mind of a child, so gentle and free

Slow down for awhile and like them you’ll see.

The glass is half-full, the milk doesn’t spill

You can do all you desire, if you make it your will.

Happiness comes from a picnic in the park

Your Scooby-Doo light that glows in the dark.

Your mom takes your hand and she holds you tight

Love so devoted, she doesn’t let you out of sight.

Life knocks you down, but you get up and go

Unscathed by the world, your feelings show.

You speak your mind and you stand up tall

You can be anything you want; you can have it all.

Somewhere along the journey your path gets cut

And in your face, a door slammed shut.

You lose yourself as you find your way

Sometimes you’re alone at the end of the day.

At times there is sorrow, but joy comes around

Nothing more precious than a child’s sound.

A little laugh will carry you through despair

A small hug show how much that they care.

Soon you’ll remember what it was like

Trading your tricycle in for a bike.

Eating ice cream as it dripped down your face

Crossing the line as you finish a race.

When it’s not life that matters but what matters in life

You’ll begin to see the joy turned from strife.

Tears will fall less often, you’ll become a fighter

The dreary days you have will become much brighter.

So, live and let loose, go a little wild

Just don’t forget what it was like to be a child.

The Sun Will Rise

The Sun Will Rise

So brightly does the sun light up the sky
and the moon glows in the dim starry nigh’.
The day is always lit, its beauty not always seen
As the night comes, we value what daylight means.
Shadows are often cast, blocking out the light
Then the darkness comes, we are lost in the night.
Overwhelmed by the dark and yet the light so far
Then a glimpse of hope, from the glow of a star.
Although the darkness comes, the sun will rise
Casting out the night, the darkness slowly dies.
The light never seems to come, yet it always will
Though patience and prayer as we sit still.
The darkness is just dark, it is not the end of light
Although vision is lost, the day will bring back sight.
Even though the dark seems weary and trying on the soul
Daylight comes to restore, put together what was whole.
Time goes by, nights only seem to pass
Faith tells us that darkness, shall not last.
Nothing will come that we cannot bear
Throughout the darkness, God was still there.
He holds our hand and leads us through
Never once alone, God is always with you.
The darkness will fade and light again exist
It may be a long journey, continue to persist.
Light will come again and you will once again see day
Strength you will feel, as you find your way.
For just as the sun sets, it rises on the eastern side
and you shall once again live, as swiftly as the tide.
When darkness comes around, God has given the moon’s glow
So you may know and trust that light will soon show.
Brighter days lie ahead and the darkness will soon fade
Don’t think of shadows as darkness, think of them as shade.

Age 19. To give a glimmer of hope that dark times will not always consume you. There will eventually be a light at the end of the tunnel and you will make it through to the other end. Even when it feels like you have lost your way, look around and try to find the glimmers of hope. Hold on to them until you make it out, back into the daylight, no longer surrounded by clouds of darkness.

May we be reminded in these times that life can still hold so many possibilities. Dreams can still be attainable and there is hope still to be found.

Try to Be Kind to Yourself

There comes a time in life when you meet someone so magnetic
Someone who brings such joy, your face hurts from smiling.
A person that somehow makes you feel safe, special and loved
By just EXISTING.
A person who doesn’t see their worth. But means everything to you.
Who’s smile could light up a room, even when they’re feeling DARK.
Someone you love with your whole heart and you try
NOT TO OVERWHELM.
Then you do something to mess it all up.
To get yourself cut out of their life.
Then they erase you.
Like you never even existed.
You don’t want to exist.
You are INVISIBLE.
You must be strong, but it’s hard.
So HARD.
You cannot stop crying.
You never imagined it would come to this.
How could you be so reckless?
So careless?
The positive self-talk doesn’t help
Yet you TRY.
To believe in the words you are saying.
You are worthy of being loved.
Not everyone you love will feel the same.
Not everyone will understand you.
You are broken but you are not
BEYOND REPAIR.
You may never have their love
And that’s OKAY.
It does not mean you do not deserve love
It will take you a while to believe this.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Not everyone will accept you
THAT’S OKAY
As much as it hurts, you will HEAL.
Believe you are not beyond love
Show yourself GRACE.
It WILL get better.

The Strength of the Bannenite

The Strength of the Bannenite

There are many beautiful flowers in the garden
Clay pots that can crack once they harden.
The sun and the soil help them to grow
Water seeps into their roots, so their petals will show.
Nature is in charge of the seasons; when they bloom
When put on display, they enhance every room.
Their petals will wilt without proper care
Tend to the garden and their beauty you will share.
When a rose bud blooms, there is no greater sight
It’s thorns proof, it’s prepared for the fight.
Behold the sunflower, that grows and stands so tall
No matter nature’s force, she will never fall.
Strong winds may come and the storms crash in
They’re more than “A summer thing til it goes out of fashion.”
The Bannenite is sturdy, can withstand more than you’d think
She doesn’t wilt in the sun, nor the water make her shrink.
Her leaves are radiant, she’s known for her hue
She doesn’t need much tending, she knows what to do.
You won’t need to dress her up with baby’s breath sprigs
Or worry about her delicacy when arranged next to twigs.
She can stand on her own, or be added to a bouquet
Her beauty never lost amongst a large display.
If given the chance, she will enhance every arrangement
She’ll flourish with each opportunity for engagement.
For as much love as you give her, she will return
For another kind of flower, you will not yearn.
You’ll take pride in knowing you invested and cared
And in her beauty and growth you will have shared.
