A Whispered Name

A Whispered Name
A name whispered throughout the wind longing to be heard,
A voice endeavoring to be found yet proclaimed with every word.
A faint prayer muttered along with the pandemonium of countless others,
The vanished voice struggles to discover, when it will be accompanied with another’s.
To be heard but not seen, to listen but to not have a clear conception,
To seek for the implementation of the precise answers and not having that perception.
To be lost in the blustery weather and not know which ending leads to where,
Feeling so alone and having not a soul with whom to be able to share.
A call wailed throughout the systematic changes of the vast land,
And heard only by the Father who holds all the world in one hand.
Searching and seeking but never confident with what is discovered,
Wounded and scarred but never time enough to be recovered.
The world hears a cry but it never stops to take heed,
That maybe, possibly, another life could be in need.
That whispered name that went unnoticed has now been heard and spoken,
That voice that wanted to be found has now been awoken.
That prayer that was faint didn’t go unnoted,
That call that was cried was never demoted.
Those that were lost are no longer fighting in the darkness of the unjust,
Those that are alone have found someone who they can trust.
The darkness is no longer dark but has been brought into the light,
Those that couldn’t see by faith have been given sight.
To not only hear but to see and to have heard and have knowledge about,
All the great plans the Lord has for those who do not doubt.
So by faith one is saved and still another can see by that testimony of assurance,
And that by chance meeting has been finalized as a planned concurrence.
So whenever a name is whispered, it never goes unheard,
And God never fails to answer or hear every uttered word.

A Song From the Heart

A Song From the Heart
If you could reach the stars, would you give them all to me?
Would you help me become more than I could be?
“Even the best fall down sometimes, even the stars refuse to shine”
You are always there and “I can feel your heart in mine.”
No matter where I go, you will always be in my heart
It will always be “such a shame for us to part.”
“I will walk with you til the sun don’t even shine”
We shall walk together with your hand in mine.
“You are my sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey”
“You’ll never know how much I love you, don’t take my sunshine away.”
“If nothing’s missing in my life, why do tears come at night?”
Yet “through the darkness I can see your light.”
“Too many years fighting back tears, why can’t the past just die?”
“Try to forgive, teach me to live, give me the strength to try.”
“You’re everything that makes me believe, I’m not alone”
You always make sure that to me love is shown.
“It only takes a little time to answer someone’s biggest prayer”
It only takes a moment to show how much you care.
“Light your world, let the love of God shine through”
and know “when the rain come I will hold you.”
For “in your name there is strength to remain”
The ability to withstand all of the pain.
“When I stand in your presence to my knees will I fall?”
“Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?”
“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good”
You do more than one person ever could.

Songs that inspire me. Age 17

No Greater Treasure

No Greater Treasure

There is something so innocent about a newborn fawn
Something so majestic about the daybreak at dawn.
Nothing more amazing than a child’s first word
Or the feeling of validation when someone is heard.
The pride one gains when they accomplish a task
The freedom felt, when emotions don’t need a mask.
There is so much beauty the world has to hold
So much to learn, that can’t simply be told.
An enormous amount of love to be found
Kindness and generosity are all around.
At times in this beautiful world, we face the dark
Yet in those times, we meet people who make a mark.
Those who shine their light when there is none
That is the majesticness of the night to the sun.
Their light cannot be hidden, neither can their heart
Those are the kind of friendships you long to start.
A glimmer of light that can help you find your way
A peaceful soul and confidant that brings joy to each day.
When you find someone who blesses your life beyond measure
You hold them close, for there’s no greater treasure.
That light you possess, won’t easily fade
Nor the impression on my heart you have made.
I won’t easily forget the compassion you show
The kindness and warmth, you allow me to know.
You bring happiness to each day that had none in store
You open up hearts that had been closed off before.
Thank you for opening up your arms and welcoming me in
The opportunity to know you, what a blessing it has been.

For Rebecca, who is always honest, fair, true, and loving.

A Day for Everything

A Day for Everything
There’s a national day for everything you could ever dream
And on February 14, there’s one for chocolates filled with cream.
Cards and gifts that can make your day seem bright
But they also have the tendency to make others lose sight.
The importance of “Valentine’s Day” is not just for romance
It’s a day to share love with others, no matter the circumstance.
Friends, family, children, maybe someone you don’t know
Acts of kindness go a long way and don’t take much to show.
A kind note left on a desk, sharing something from your lunch
Taking out a friend or your parents for a nice brunch.
It shouldn’t feel forced, “something you must do”
There’s so much joy in telling someone “I love you.”
We shouldn’t need a reason to show love or be kind
But life gets busy and it often slips our mind.
It’s nice to have a day, to remind others how much we care
A gentle reminder that in a time of need, we’ll be there.
No need to buy a gift, acts of kindness mean so much more
Than anything you could pick out from some fancy store.
Try to open your heart to everything this day can bring
Let it heal up wounds that have still left a sting.
Love comes in many forms and unexpected places
And others will find comfort in the warmth of your embraces.
Everyone has something to give, you never know who you will touch
And when it seems like no one else cares, know I love you very much.

For those who may be hesitant about celebrating a commercial holiday or a romantic ones that is a reminder of pain or love taken away. There are so many other places to find love than just in a romantic partner or even someone we lost. Try to remember all the other amazing people in your life that need your love.

The Essence of a Nurse

It’s often rare to meeting someone so far into the career that they haven’t become cynical or lost that spark that lead them to become a nurse. Nursing leadership can be difficult and it takes a special person to still have a heart of empathy and compassion after so many years of service.

The Essence of a Nurse
The season was fall and the journey was new
Surroundings intimidating, but then there was you.
Your smile offered warmth, amidst the cold
Your personality soft, yet not afraid to be bold.
You know how to lead, but to also be kind
A trait in everyone, we don’t always find.
A nurse provides no judgment with their care
Treats everyone equal, just, and fair.
Times arise when there’s a difficult case
But a nurse doesn’t waiver, no matter what they face.
When problems arise and we need somewhere to turn
You offer an opportunity for growth and to learn.
A safe place to unload whatever has us worried
To solve any problems without being hurried.
The mind is at ease when there’s someone we can confide
Who cares for each worker and fights on their side.
A place of authority can often push others away
Yet instead of alienation, you’re the sun in each day.
Your door is always open and so is your heart
Never lose that spark that sets you a part.
You’re kind and compassionate, loving and true
We’re thankful to have a nurse as wonderful as you!

For Brenda. This poem was inspired by a wonderful nurse in my life. I hope you find other nurses who fit the mold.
