This is the Last Time Taylor Swift Called Him “Babe”

It’s here! Sugarland just released their first single off their upcoming album Bigger, “Babe” written by Taylor Swift and Pat Monahan (Train) circa 2012. Yes, that is during the Red Era which is the album “Babe” was originally written for. We know Swift has mentioned before that sometimes she can write up to 70 songs per album cycle and then has to narrow them down to the top 13-15. So how many other songs this amazing does she have sitting around and can she continue offering them to other artists to sing? Because wow, between “Babe” and “Better Man” we would be missing life-altering songs!

Swift also lends her vocals on “Babe”, starting with background “ehs” before getting into singing lyrics “This is the last time… I’ll ever call you babe.” The song is truly heartbreaking in nature, but it is not a typical sad ballad, one might expect of Swift’s truly heartbreaking songs. Instead, it is upbeat, a song you almost feel bad dancing around the room too and putting on repeat, yet at the same time, you want to smash something fragile because of the rage of someone cheating on our girl.

Swift doesn’t bash her ex for having cheated on her, she doesn’t call him names but instead finds herself questioning how he could break the promises he made, and the words he said when he said it was just the two of them. It’s that stage of a failed relationship when you aren’t in a rage, but sadness, because something you thought was so great, had to come to an end. But when all is said in done, she didn’t stay with someone who wasn’t faithful because she respected herself enough to leave.

Since you admitted it  / I keep picturing / Her lips on your neck / I can’t unsee it / I hate that because of you / I can’t love you, babe

“Babe” takes on a crucial era, as Red is regarded by fans as possibly the best album of all time, that was definitely cheated out of a GRAMMY for album of the year and produced the most amazing song ever…. “All Too Well.” So in hindsight, can we go back and look at the times Swift was obvious about this relationship that we never knew much about in the public eye, except that it took up pretty much an entire album? Throughout Red, Swift sings “You never loved me, or HER, or anyone” which definitely hints at cheating. Speaking of “All Too Well” and one of the most quoted lyrics “You call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest.” Now Swift sheds more light with the lyrics: “What a shame / Didn’t want to be the one that got away, yeah / Big mistake / Broke the sweetest promise that you never should have made” and as previously mentioned, “Since you admitted it / I keep picturing / Her lips on your neck…” So the casual cruelness could be him admitting he cheated and doing so in the name of being honest. Honesty is, of course, important in a relationship, and people should always own up to their mistakes, but sometimes there are just some things that can’t be forgotten, and you can’t move on from.

Fans have long suspected cheating before, during scenes of several music videos like “I Knew You Were Trouble” when the male lead is actually seen kissing another girl.

It’s a song people have long debated about who it was written for and with “Babe” it definitely makes it a little more clear as songs intertwine. Although, with the release so many years later, it doesn’t seem to be as big a blow guessing at who is the subject of the song (but let’s say the scarf is the least of his problems), but it definitely helps link more together and answers questions about some lyrics and why love failed. It’s amazing how this whole album intertwined and how there is even a song on it called “The Last Time” in which Swift has to continuously ask her partner to put her at the top of his list, but he keeps breaking her heart and leaving. She is truly a master at songwriting and conveying the hardest parts of relationships so artistically and so relatable. Her amazing artistry is often lost in the commotion of who the songs are about, but at their core, there is arguably not a better songwriter of this generation.

Swift definitely did a great job of choosing Country Duo, Sugarland to record the song with. Their album is currently available for pre-order and will be out June 8. Check out the song and lyrics below!

BABE – Lyrics

What a shame
Didn’t want to be the one that got away, yeah
Big mistake
Broke the sweetest promise that you never should have made

I’m here on the kitchen floor
You call but I won’t hear it
You said no one else
How could you do this, babe

You really blew this babe
We ain’t gettin’ through this one babe
This is the last time I’ll ever call you babe

This is the last time
This is the last time
This is the last time
I’ll ever call you babe

What a waste
Takin down the pictures and the plans we made, yeah
And it’s strange how your face doesn’t look so innocent,
Your secret has its consequence and that’s on you babe

I break down every time you call
We’re a wreck, you’re the wreckin’ ball
We said no one else
How could you do this Babe

You really blew this, babe
We ain’t getting through this one, babe
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe

This is the last time
This is the last time
This is the last time

Since you admitted it,
I keep picturing,
Her lips on your neck,
I can’t unsee it,
I hate that because of you,
I can’t love you, babe

What a shame
Didn’t wanna be the one that got away,
How could you do this, babe?
You really blew this babe,
We ain’t getting through this one babe.
How could you do this babe?

This is the last time
This is the last time
This is the last time
I’ll ever call you babe

I’m here on the kitchen floor
You call, but I won’t hear it
You said no one else
We ain’t getting through this one babe

I break down every time you call
We’re the wreck
You’re the wrecking ball
You said no one else

This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe

What Sugarland + Taylor Swift’s “Babe” Music Video Tells Us About Cheating

It sure has been an exciting time as Sugarland just released their come back album Bigger which includes their lead single “Babe” written by Taylor Swift circa 2012. Bigger is currently at #2 on iTunes Country Charts and #5 overall! The newly released music video for “Babe” is at #1 all genres!

“Babe” is still climbing the charts at #27 at Country Radio and the music video will surely give it an extra push! Swift wrote the treatment (concept) of the music video and Sugarland loved it! The video was shot last month on the set of the show Mad Men.

“She actually reached out to us and said, ‘I’ve got a great idea for the video,’ and she wrote the treatment. And we looked at it and said, ‘Oh my gosh, this is awesome.’ She loves this song. She loves our recording of it. She’s been such a champion of ours, not only for many, many years, but also where this project is concerned. She’s just super excited that we’re doing it.

In the video, Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland plays the unsuspecting wife, who’s husband (Brandon Routh) has an affair with his co-worker (Taylor Swift). Kristian Bush of Sugarland, can be seeing in various roles throughout the video.

Yes, the video has been described as “steamy” and Swift’s character is sexy and flirty, but don’t let the glamour of the video, take away from its lyrics and point. This is a song about being cheated on and the emotional turmoil that takes on a person.

Nettles character seems strong and confident as she walks away from a marriage,

and Swift’s character shows the sadness and pain of being left. That is what cheating does to a person. It’s never clean and easy. It’s easy to get caught up on the music and production and how even though the song talks about something so devastating, the song is one you could play on repeat and not get tired of. But that doesn’t take away from the truth of the lyrics and the pain of the situation.

“Babe” was originally written for Swift’s album Red but it didn’t make the final tracklist. We do see similiar themes from the Red Era, and even the lyrics tie in with others on the album. She’s on the kitchen floor and holding a crumbled up piece of paper, remind anyone else of “All Too Well”?

There is real heartbreak and even though Swift is playing the character of the other woman, I think in these moment’s, she’s also playing herself and the emotions she went through when she was cheated on. Unable to move, function, or get off the couch. Your self-worth is questioned, you constantly have to worry about being cheated on again. It’s anguish and it isn’t pretty.
In the end, hopefully we can find the strength to walk away from that turmoil and find our self-worth, because we are worth more than someone who doesn’t cherish what we have to offer and takes that for granted.

Sugarland + Taylor Swift’s Music Video For “Babe” Drops Saturday – See The Trailer!

WOW! Are we ever readTAY for the “Babe” music video after the preview that premiered during the CMT Music Awards Wednesday night! The video drops Saturday and it is going to be amazing. Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles plays the woman who got cheated on by Taylor Swift‘s character! Which is ironic since Swift is the one who wrote the song about being the woman that Nettles plays. In the video, now Swift gets to act our the role of the woman who her then boyfriend cheated on her with. *Cough Jake.*

In the video we can see Swift with Red hair. Is she perhaps hinting that she was cheated on by a red hair woman, or is she paying homage to the fact it was supposed to be on the album Red? With Swift’s attention to deal, we have to assume the action was deliberate, but it’s much more fun to just enjoy the video than to speculate on all the unknown!

We do know Swift wrote the treatment (aka she came up with the concept/storyline of the video). Sugarland told ET online:

“It’s your favorite summer movie you haven’t seen yet. It’s red-headed Taylor. Which I think is… it could be a giveaway if you’re a Mad Men fan, but maybe not.”

“It’s cinematic,” Nettles agreed, adding that Swift actually wrote the treatment for the video and helped shape the look. “It’s a period piece, if you will.”

Watch the trailer below, the full video drops Saturday!

A New Song From The Taylor Swift ‘Red Era’ is on its Way!

If Red is your favorite Taylor Swift album, then you are really going to love this news! A song Swift wrote for Red is being released on April 20 before the release of the new Sugarland album. Swift is featured on the song as well!

Not only is it the only feature on their Bigger album, but it’s also the only song the duo didn’t write together! It’s their first album in 8 years!

The song is called “Babe” and was written by Swift and Train‘s Pat Monahan back in 2012. The song ultimately didn’t make it onto the album or the deluxe version. Pat told ABC News back in 2013:

“It’s a song called ‘Babe’ so it’s her song; I was just lucky enough to be a part of it with her, and I’m gonna ask the same of her in the future. She’s very talented, she’s a no-nonsense young kid. Y’know, she’s, like, a serious thing. I’m not going through different relationships and breakups and all the stuff that young people do, so her perspective is very fresh. And I think that that’s what I admire the most [about her].”

Red is definitely one of the most emotional albums Swift has written that includes ballad and fan favorite “All Too Well.” It will be interesting to see if Babe is a song in the “breakup” stage or the “in love” stage. Since most of Red was about Swift’s past relationships, it’s possible it could be a happier song that just didn’t fit the album. Or maybe, it’s another emotional ballad that would have just made the album seem too sad. Either way, we can’t wait to hear it, it’s bound to be a single, and maybe Swift will invite Sugarland out on tour so they can all perform it together!

Pat also joined Swift on her Red Tour and they performed his song “Drive By”

Photo Gallery: Kristian Bush Performs At Stagecoach

This weekend, I had the opportunity to photograph the artists performing at Stagecoach! There were so many talented acts and Kristian Bush was no exception. Out in the hearts of Indio, where Coachella took place the past two weekends, Country Music came to California!

Bush has been performing as a solo artist the last couple of years, and some of you may know him from the Duo, Sugarland. He brought a lot of energy to the stage as he took on the desert heat! Check out the photos below!.
