For All or Nothing

For All or Nothing
For all the flowers in the field, that sway when the wind blows,
And for the view atop a mountain, where the water beneath flows.
For all the grain in the field, that makes a farmer flourish,
And the milk a mother feeds her young, to help keep them nourished.
Still for the gratitude of serving another person in need,
And the fight for doing what’s right, just for doing a simple deed.
For the love of a father who loves, even through the depths of despair,
To cherish that undying love that won’t be easy to find elsewhere.
For all the time spent training so a single race could be won,
It never does seem worthwhile, but it always shows when the task is done.
For all the love of money, that makes a greedy person stay despised,
And all the wealth and land that keeps feuding countries devised.
With all the love a lover seeks, to win a determined women to be his wife,
And all the passion a lost soul holds, to find the reasons for his life.
For all that seems uncertain and no comprehensible answers in sight,
And all that a warrior holds dear, so he can stay strong and fight.
For the passion a king possesses when his kingdom has become corrupt,
And when a person fights for what’s lost and never once gives up.
For the freedom this country fought for and the bondage to be set free,
The stars and stripes that remind us, of what we couldn’t see.
For the love of our country that keeps us united one and all,
And for all the brave in heart, that makes even a lion seem small.
With all the pride a father holds when his only son grows up,
And all the guidance a mother gives, to help train her pup.
For all that is in the world and all that I choose to live,
For all that has been mentioned, my love I still give!

For Cozette, the greatest HS English teacher and now friend. Age 15

Blinded by Darkness

Blinded by Darkness
I found this dark place, it’s not friendly there
Everyday there is hurt, pain, and no one to care.
In this place with no light, I have not a friend
Not one with happy moments I can spend.
I see glimpses of the light, but they flicker away
They get me all excited and then lead me astray.
In this place of darkness, where light does not enter
I have a bleeding heart, stuck with a splinter.
I know you don’t care, that’s what makes this pain so
The yearning for a friend makes it continue to grow.
There is love in my life but when so many don’t bother
It’s hard to see love when it lacks from mother and father.
In darkness it’s hard to see those of you that love
In my weakness I can only turn to my Father above.
It’s hard to express what I’m feeling inside
Like the waves won’t continue being a part of the tide.
Yet it is a part of nature, bound to occur
Yet why every time the waves form am I still unsure?
I’m at a loss for the words that still need to be said
So I am left here with only quiet tears to shed.
It’s not easy no one ever said it would be
Yet why is it so hard, out of the darkness to see?
Why is my vision blurry, why am I so blind
Why is there constant confusion running through my mind?
Will I ever again be able to see the light
Or will I just learn to walk without sight?

An End Marks a Beginning

An End Marks a Beginning
They say all good things must come to an end
That times draws near and we try hard to pretend
Life just keeps going and nothing will fade
We’ll always remember the friends that we made.
Such joy is felt as that day draws near
We try to keep it together, not shed a tear.
Even those who just can’t wait to leave
Will be proud of what they’ve worked for years to achieve.
Senior year, brings our time to a close
The work we’ve done finally shows.
A special day we have come to be a part
Express the final words we wish to impart.
Nothing is dearer than what we leave behind
Except the hope of the future we seek to find.
What we’ve learned will not be a waste
The memories we’ve gained shall not be replaced.
What final advice do we hope to gain?
What memories will always remain?
We might not remember the here and the now
But we will always be connected together somehow.
High School can be described in a variety of ways
Hopefully with pride of how you spent your final days.
Be proud of the last four years you have spent
And may Graduation be a defining event.
Live life to its fullest and may you never forget
Life is what you make it, live without a single regret.

All the Reasons I Love You

All the Reasons I Love You
I love how much you love others, you barely even know,
I love how you encourage new believers so they can grow.
I love the sound of your voice and the smile on your face,
And how you bring about brightness to even the darkest place.
I love how you help others and have such a big heart,
How you help those on their feet, who didn’t have a good start.
I love your honestly and how sincere you truly are,
How you have reached others, who have seemed to stray so far.
Your selflessness that shines through to those who are blind,
And helps them to love God with all their heart, soul and mind.
I love your servant’s heart and willingness to serve,
And how much you care for those, who feel they don’t deserve.
Your comforting hugs that soothe and ease the soul,
Your words of encouragement, that makes a broken heart whole.
Your depth and understanding of God’s holy word,
And the importance of knowing, what’s beyond being heard.
I love you for more reasons than I could ever say,
And how my love grows with every passing day.
The joy I find in loving you is beyond what I could ask,
And growing with you in the Lord is my most precious task.
All the reasons I love you cannot be expressed in the simplest phrase,
Because everyday I love you in so many new and different ways.
Even when I miss you, I know that true love lasts and remains forever,
And for that very reason, I know that God will keep us together.
So even though I may not see you, each and every day,
You will always remain a part of me, for God always finds a way.

For Shannon, whose smile could brighten any day. Age 15

A Wonderful Place

A Wonderful Place
Imagine a world where you could have anything you wanted,
What would it be? Would you wish for fame and glory?
Would you want the ultimate success or just to be content?
Do you know what I would wish for? You will soon see.
I imagine a world with no pain, everything goes smoothly.
What would that be like? Does such a place exist?
A place where all the answers are known but still intriguing.
I know of this place and can share it with you.
It’s a place that knows no darkness, nor ever will
Pain does not exist, nor do days of sadness occur.
Time? What is a minute or an hour, this place knows not.
These things on earth would be foreign,
If they existed we would not need a God.
If this place were on earth, we would not need a Heaven.
There would be no hope of someday seeing something better.
So I tell you of this place where we can always be together.
Time apart on earth can be hard, but it never lasts forever.
Earth is filled with disappointments but also little blessings.
Blessings are little glimpses of what we will one day encounter.
We pray to see more of them, to see bad times fade away,
So God gives us on earth what we need to make it through.
He sustains us through tough times as we pray for His guidance.
God will always be with us, it would be unbearable without Him.
I need His strength and His guidance, advice from others.
So I pray and ask of Him what I need and He sent me you.
I know of this place I told you, so in Christ we will be together.
