Leaked Kanye West + Taylor Swift “Famous” Phone Call Shows How Uncomfortable Swift Was.

There’s a reason sexual harassment is not allowed in the workplace. When someone in a higher position asks something of another employee, it can be hard to say no. When it’s someone who has publicly humiliated you in the past, like Kanye West did to Taylor Swift at the VMAs in 2009, then it can also be hard to say no. However, Swift was not as cool with the lyrics of “Famous” as West made her out to be. In fact, he went on for several minutes before even telling her the first line as Swift questions “is it going to be mean?” West says it’s not mean, just controversial. He also states that his wife, Kim Kardashian did not like the line “I feel like Taylor Swift might STILL have sex” vs the original line “I feel like Taylor Swift owes me sex.” Specifically because the still have sex implies that they might actually have sex but owes me sex doesn’t imply that. First of all, it if takes “build up” and a back story of how dope the song is, and even West is nervous about telling Swift about the line, then it probably isn’t a good line!

FULL CONVERSATION WEST/SWIFT

A nervous Swift responded as best she could. She states she understands why his wife wouldn’t like the line and she also states that the owes me sex sort of implies that he made her famous. Which begs an answer to the next question, did West actually have the next line written when he called Swift? You know, the one where he says “Why? I made that B**** famous.” He never once told Swift about this line and after listening to the whole conversation, it almost seems like Swift gave him the inspiration for that line with her fears.

After hearing the line, Swift states “That’s not mean, it’s almost a compliment. I thought you were going to say ‘that stupid bitch.'” So Swift, tells Kanye she was literally worried about him calling her a bitch, then he later does just that. So once again, she would not have been okay with him calling her that, he doesn’t mention that line, then later calls her that. Oh but wait she gave her approval right Kim?

As Swift stated, how can you give approval for a line you never heard. West even states he was going to go lay down the verse then send it to her, which he never did. Swift asked once the edited video version Kim released came out “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened.”

Swift went on to say at the time: “He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination.”

While Kim and Kanye have enjoyed the world cancel Swift, the truth was eventually revealed, proving that Swift was in fact right all along.

Also, would just like to point out, that West kept the version his wife didn’t like and that says all we need to know about him.

Audio Transcript:

KW: —old school s—, yeah. I’m doing great. I feel so awesome about the music. The album’s coming out Feb. 11. I’m doing the fashion show Feb. 11 at Madison Square Garden and dropping the album Feb. 12, that morning. It’s like …. yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Aw thank you so, so much. Thank you. It feels like, real. I don’t know, just ‘Ye, Apple, Steve Jobs-type music. Like, so my next single, I wanted you to tweet it … so that’s why I’m calling you. I wanted you to put the song out.

TS: What would people … I guess it would just be, people would be like, “Why is this happening?” And I had something to do with it, probably.

KW: The reason why it would happen is because it has a very controversial line at the beginning of the song about you.

TS: What does it say? [nervous laughter]

KW: It says, and the song is so, so dope, and I literally sat with my wife, with my whole manager team, with everything, and try to rework this line. I’ve thought about this line for eight months, I’ve had this line and tried to rework it every which way, and the original way that I thought about it is the best way, but it’s the most controversial, so it’s gonna go Eminem a little bit, so can you brace yourself for a second?

TS: Yeah…

KW: Okay, alright. It says—wait a second, you sound sad.

TS: Well, is it gonna be mean?

KW: No, I don’t think it’s mean.

TS: Okay, then let me hear it.

KW: Okay, um … and the funny thing is when I first played it and my wife heard it, she was like “Huh? What? That’s too crazy, blah, blah, blah.” And when Ninja from Die Antwoord heard it, he was like, “Oh God, this is the craziest sh—! This is why I love Kanye,” that kind of thing. It’s like my wife’s favorite f—ing line. I just wanted to give you some premise of that, right?

TS: Okay.

KW: So it says, “To all my Southside n— that know me best/ I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex.” [chuckles]

TS: [chuckles] That’s not mean.

KW: Okay. Yeah, well, this is the thing why I’m calling you because you got an army. You own a country of motherf—ing two billion people, basically, that if you felt that it’s funny and cool and like hip hop and felt like, you know, just The College Dropout and the artist like, ‘Ye that you love, then I think that people would be like way into it, and that’s why I think it’s super genius to have you be the one that says, ‘Oh, I like this song a lot, like, yeah, whatever. This is cool. Whatever, it’s like, I got like s— on my album where I’m like, “I bet me and Ray J will be friends if we ain’t love the same bitch.”

TS: Oh my [laughs]. I mean, I need to think about it because you hear something for the first time, you need to think about it because it is absolutely crazy. I’m glad it’s not mean though. It doesn’t feel mean, but like, oh my God, the build-up you gave it. I thought it was gonna be like that stupid dumb bitch, like, but it’s not. Um, so I don’t know. I mean, the launch thing, I think it would be kind of confusing to people, but I definitely like, I definitely think that when I’m asked about, of course I’m gonna be like, “Yeah, I’m his biggest fan. I love that. I think it’s hilarious,” but um, I’ll think about it.

KW: Yeah, you don’t have to do—you don’t have to do the launch and retweet. That’s just an extra idea that I had, like, but if you think that that’s cool, then that’s cool. If not, we are launching the s— like on just GOOD Fridays, on Soundcloud, the site, s— like that.

TS: You know, the thing about me is like, anything that I do becomes a feminine think-piece, and if I launch it, they’re gonna be like, “Wow,” like this thing—like they’ll just turn it into something that … I think if I launch it, it honestly like, it’ll be less cool ‘cause I think if I launch it, it adds this level of criticism, ‘cause having that many followers and having that many eyeballs on me right now, people are just looking for me to do something dumb or stupid or lame, and it’s like almost … I don’t know, like I kind of feel like people would try to make it negative if it came from me. Do you know what I mean?

KW: Yeah.

TS:  I try to be super self-aware about where I am, and I feel like, I feel like right now I’m like this close to overexposure.

KW: Well, this one, I think this is a really cool thing to have.

TS: I know, it’s like a compliment [laughs].

KW: I had this line where I said—and my wife really didn’t like this one because we tried to make it nicer. So I said, “To all my Southside n— that know me best/ I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” and my wife was really not with that one. She was way more into “She owes you sex,” but then the owe part was the feminist group-type s— that I was like, “Ahhh.”

TS: That’s the part that I’m kind of—I mean, they’re both really edgy, but that’s the only thing about that line is that it’s like gonna … the feminists are gonna come out, but I mean, you don’t have to give a f—, so…

KW: Yeah, basically. Well, what I give a f— about is just you as a person and as a friend. I want things—

TS: That’s sweet—

KW: —that make you feel good. I don’t wanna do rap that makes people feel bad, like of course like I’m mad at Nike, so people think like, “Oh, he’s a bully. He ran on stage with Taylor. He’s bullying Nike now, this $50 billion company.”

TS: Why are people saying you’re bullying Nike?

KW: Because on “Facts” I said like, “Yeezy, Nike out here bad, they can’t give s— away.”

TS: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, that’s just what you do though.

KW: [laughs]

TS: [laughs] I mean, I wouldn’t say that it’s like possible to bully a company like Nike where—I mean, um, yeah, I mean, go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way, and I really appreciate you telling me about it. That’s really nice.

KW: Oh yeah. I just had a responsibility to you as a friend. I mean, thanks for being, like, so cool about it.

TS: Thanks. Yeah, I really appreciate it. The heads-up is so nice. You’d be surprised how many people just do things without even asking or seeing if I’d be okay with it, and I just really appreciate it. I never would have expected you to tell me about a line in one of your songs. That’s really nice that you did.

KW: You mean like unexpected s— like you taking the time to give someone a really, really valuable award and then they completely run for president right afterwards? Like unexpected in that kind of way? [laughs]

TS: [laughs] We have not talked about what happened.

KW: I just thought that was wavy. It was vibe-y. The funny thing is I thought about the weed and the president … both of those things I thought about in the shower the day before and just started laughing like crazy. I was like, I gotta say that I had just smoked some weed, and then say I’m gonna run for president. So those are my bases of … I knew I wanted to say the thing about going to like the Dodgers game with my daughter and like getting booed and that being scary, and I knew I wanted to say, like, me changing and thinking about people more since I had a daughter. And then I wanted to say the weed thing. And then I wanted to say the president thing. And everything else was just like off the cuff.

TS: Oh my God. It was definitely, like, it stole the show. And then the flowers that you sent me. I Instagram-ed a picture of them and it’s the most Instagram likes I’ve ever gotten. It was like 2.7 million likes on that picture of the flowers you sent me. Crazy.

KW: It’s some connection or something that I think is really important about that moment when we met on stage. There’s something that I think is really important about that, and where humanity is going, or now where me and Kim are, and having a family and just everything, the way things are landing. So it’s always—relationships are more important than punchlines, you know.

TS: Yeah, I mean, I don’t think anybody would listen to that and be like, “Oh, that’s a real diss.” Like, “She must be crying about that line.” And I think because of how crazy and strange and fateful the way we met was, I think we have to pick our moments to do stuff together and make sure it’s only really cool stuff.

KW: Yeah, exactly. We can’t have it, like, be somebody else’s idea that gets in front and they’re, like—because if you’re like a really true, creative, visceral, vibe-y type person, it’s probably hard for you to work at a corporation. So how can you give a creative—creative ideas and you’re working in a house of non-creativity? It’s like this weird … so whenever we talk directly—okay, now what if later in the song I was also to have said, uh, “I made her famous”? Is that a—

TS: [hesitant] Did you say that?

KW: Yes, it might’ve happened [laughs].

TS: Well, what am I gonna do about it?

KW: Uh, like, do the hair flip?

TS: Yeah, I mean, um, it’s just kind of like, whatever, at this point. But I mean, you’ve got to tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way that you’ve experienced it. Like, you honestly didn’t know who I was before that. Like, it doesn’t matter if I sold seven million of that album before you did that, which is what happened. You didn’t know who I was before that. It’s fine. But, um, yeah. I can’t wait to hear it.

KW: I mean, it’s fun. It’s definitely—you’re ready to trend. That’s all I can say.

TS: Uh, what’s the song called?

KW: Uh, it might be called “Hood Famous.”

TS: Oh, cool. Is it going to be like a single-single, or is it going to be a Soundcloud release? What are you doing?

KW: Oh, this one right here is like f—ing song of the year-type territory.

TS: Oh my God, amazing. That’s crazy. Oh my God. Speaking of song of the year, are you going to the Grammys?

KW: Uh, you know what? I was thinking to not do it. But I think that this song—you know what? I’m going to send you the song and send you the exact wording and everything about it, right? And then we could sit and talk through it. But if the song goes and f—ing just—

TS: …they just look at us and go … Even if we’ve made an incredible achievement, it’s harder for people to write down our names for some reason. That’s just human nature. It’s envy. It’s asking people in our industry to vote for the people who are already killing it.

KW: Yeah. It’s, like, so many people wanted Meek Mills to win because Drake was just killing it for so long, and they were just like, “We just need like Meek Mills to like—but I think, you know, okay, so that has my mind going through a lot of places to problem-solve. I was talking to Ben Horowitz. Do you know this guy? He’s a VC. Ben Horowitz out of San Fran. But he’s down with that.

TS: I know that name. I don’t know him.

KW: It’s just like the San Fran clique, you know, that type of thing. Like he stays down the street from Mark Zuckerberg and s— like that. So I was talking to him and I was like, “Bro.” Like me, I’m in personal debt. I’m in debt by a good like $20, 30 million, ever since the fashion … and still have not made it out of it. So that’s part of the reason why I had to go to Roc Nation and the touring deals evolved, and it allowed the whole town to try to feel like they could control Kanye or even talk to me like I’m regular or have agents do it, but they saw they couldn’t. It’s like even in debt, he moves around like he’s like a billionaire. I’m like, yeah, I’m a cultural trillionaire! I might have financial debts. So I told Ben Horowitz, I was like, “You guys, you, Mark Zuckerberg or whoever, Tim Cook, you guys have to clean that up.” So I’m sending Ben Horowitz my current balance. That means that l’m not up $50, not up 100 million, not up 200 million, not up 300 million. No. Negative $20 million, currently. I, Kanye West, the guy who created the genre of music that is The Weeknd, that is Drak —the guy who created—every single person that makes music right now, favorite album is The College Dropout. Every single person that makes music. But I’m rich enough. Like, I went into debt to my wife by $6 million working on a f—ing house, less than like a few months ago, and I was able to pay her back before Christmas and s— like that. So, you know, when I talk about Nike, the idea that they wouldn’t give me a percentage, that I could make something that was so tangible, when Drake was just rapping me into the motherf—ing trashcan, that I could have something that was tangible that showed my creativity and expressed myself, that also could be a business that I could have a five-times multiple on and actually be able to sell it for like $100 million, $200 million or a billion dollars, that was very serious. Every conversation, every time I’d scream at Charlemagne or scream at Sway, that was really, really, really serious. And it also was with my family. I felt like, look, if I’m just the angry black guy with some cool red shoes from Nike five years ago, I was going to be visiting my daughter, as opposed to be living with her. It would’ve been like, enough is enough. It wouldn’t have been cool anymore, because it would have been a group of people, including my wife, that all had at least like $500, 400 million in their account. And then you get the angry black man at the party talking about “I’m the one that put Kim in the dress! I’m the one that did this!” But it never realized itself. So that’s one of the things I just talked to Ben. And I talk about it on the album. Talk about personal debt and s—. Just the idea like, “Oh s—, this dude with this f—ing Maybach that makes f—ing $50 million a tour still hasn’t lined it up or came out of the point when AEG and Live Nation wouldn’t give him a deal.” The debt started after Watch the Throne, because I got no deal. But I still was doing my creative projects on my own, shooting a film, doing a fashion show, just trying to be very Disney, be very visceral, be creative. And…

TS: I mean, I’m sure you’ve thought about this up and down, but I mean, is there a way to monetize these in a way that you thought would still feel authentic but make them into a multi-billion dollar company?

KW: Well, that’s what we’re going to do. That’s what we’re in the plans of. I’m 100 percent going to be like a multi, multi, multi-billionaire. I think it’s fun that I can like be like Charlie Sheen and be like, “Hey, like, I got AIDS.” You know, like—to me, I told Drake that the other night. I was like, “Yo, Drake, I’m in personal debt.” And for me to tell Drake, the f—ing number one bachelor in the world that can f—ing rap anybody into a trashcan, that lives four blocks down the street from my wife and like basically f—s all of her friends, that I’m in personal debt, it’s such a like putting down the sword or putting down the hand or opening, showing the hand. That I don’t have my poker face on with any of you guys. I’m just me. I’m just a creative. You know, everything I did, even when it was mistimed, whatever it might’ve been from a—it’s always, like, from a good place, and I know that I’ll overcome it and I know that the world will overcome it. Because, like, I’m going to change the world. I’m going to make it—I’m gonna make people’s lives better on some post-Steve Jobs, Howard Hughes-type s—. Like, I’m going to do things with education. I’m going to do things that help to calm down murders in Chicago or across the globe. Things that help to calm down police brutality, to equalize the wealth amidst the class system. Because there’s a bunch of classes of wealthy people that hate Obama because he’s more social and he wants the people who don’t have anything to have everything. And in my little way, by learning how to design, design is something that’s only given to the rich currently. The exact color palette that Hermès uses versus the color palette that Forever 21 uses—a color palette is extremely important. Color is important. You know, the knowledge of proportions, you know, the size of our house versus the size of someone else’s houses, and just the dynamics of that proportion. Like, I don’t want this conversation to go too, too long, but I wanted to give you a bit of where I’m at and the perspective that I’m at and the way … the fact that I am the microprocessor of our culture. Meaning like, I can figure out how to give Rihanna a Mary J. Blige-type album. I can figure out how to get the fashion world to accept my wife, and thus the whole family. I can figure out a lot of impossible … I can figure out how to make something that you’re wearing to the airport, five years after the entire globe was like, “Hang that n— alive and f— him, and let’s watch him die, slowly, publicly.” So, it’s a lot. I figured that out for myself, so it’s a lot of s— that we collectively, with the power that you have and your fans, the power my wife has, the power that I have, that we can do to really make it where it’s not just the rich getting richer, but you know, make it not just a f—ing charity, not singing for Africa, but change things in a way that people can experience s— themselves, a piece of the good life. You know?

TS: Yeah. I mean, they’re amazing ideas and amazing concepts, and I definitely would love to talk to you more about it. I know you have to do something right now, but I love that that’s where you’re headed. And it’s been like that. I mean, when we went to dinner, there were the rumblings of those ideas. I like that you’re always thinking outward. And over the last six, seven, eight years, however long it’s been since that happened, I haven’t always liked you, but I’ve always respected you. And I think that’s what you’re saying when you say like, you know, “I might be in debt, but I can make these things happen, and I have the ideas to do it, and I can create these things or these concepts.” Like, I’m always going to respect you. And I’m really glad that you had the respect to call me and tell me that as a friend about the song, and it’s a really cool thing to do, and a really good show of friendship. So thank you.

KW: Oh, thank you too.

TS: And you know, if people ask me about it, look, I think it would be great for me to be like, “Look, he called me and told me the line before it came out. Like, the joke’s on you guys. We’re fine.”

KW: Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I think that’s pretty much the switch right there.

TS: Yeah. Like, you guys want to call this a feud, you want to call this throwing shade, but you know, right after the song comes out, I’m gonna be on a Grammy red carpet, and they’re gonna ask me about it and I’ll be like, “He called me and sent me the song before it came out.” So I think we’re good.

KW: Okay. I’m gonna go lay this verse, and I’m gonna send it to you right now.

TS: Oh, you just—you haven’t recorded it yet?

KW: I recorded it. I’m nuancing the lines. Like the last version of it says, “me and Taylor might still have sex.” And then my wife was like, ”That doesn’t sound as hard!”

TS: Well, I mean, she’s saying that honestly because she’s your wife, and like, um … so I think whatever one you think is actually better. I mean, obviously do what’s best for your relationship, too. I think “owes me sex,” it says different things. It says—”owes me sex” means like, “look, I made her what she is. She actually owes me.” Which is going to split people because people who like me are going to be like, “She doesn’t owe him s—.” But then people who like thought it was badass and crazy and awesome that you’re so outspoken are going to be like, “Yeah, she does. It made her famous.” So it’s more provocative to say “still have sex,” because no one would see that coming. They’re both crazy. Do what you want. They’re both going to get every single headline in the world. “Owes me sex” is a little bit more like throwing shade, and the other one’s more flirtatious. It just depends on what you want to accomplish with it.

KW: Yeah, I feel like with my wife, that she probably didn’t like the “might still have sex” because it would be like, what if she was on a TV show and said, “Me and Tom Brady might still have sex” or something?

TS: You have to protect your relationship. Do what’s best. You just had a kid. You’re in the best place of your life. I wouldn’t ever advise you to f— with that. Just pick whatever. It’s cause and effect. One is gonna make people feel a certain way, and it’s gonna be a slightly different emotion for the other. But it’s not—it doesn’t matter to me. There’s not one that hurts my feelings and the other doesn’t.

KW: Yeah. It’s just, when I’m pointing this gun, what I tried to do differently than two years ago, is like when I shoot a gun, I try to point it away from my face. So one is a little bit more flirtatious and easier, I think, so really, that means the conversation is really—one is like a little bit better for the public and a little bit less good for the relationship. One is a little bit worse for the public and better for the relationship.

TS: Yeah. I can hear it. But it’s your goals, really. I mean, you always just go with your gut, obviously. But, um, amazing. Send it to me. I’m excited.

KW: All right, cool. Thanks so much.

TS: Awesome, I’ll talk to you later.

KW: All right, cool. Peace. Bye. [to camera] We had to get that on the record.

Cameraman: I’m sorry. The battery on this thing died.

KW: It’s just when it dies, you get some s— like Kanye talking to Taylor Swift explaining that line? There’s gotta be three cameras on that one. We can’t miss one element.

Taylor Swift’s Life Advice is Something We All Need to Learn

We haven’t seen much of Taylor Swift in 2019, but we have been blessed with two magazine covers thanks to Elle USA and Elle UK featuring her on their newest issues. 2019 is a lot of things, but it is also the year that Swift turns 30, a benchmark in anyone’s life. She has learned a lot since she started in the business at 14 and her views have changed dramatically.

Back in 2012, Swift said that any relationship where the guy isn’t proud to show her off, it isn’t the relationship for her. She didn’t want to be in hiding, she wanted to be able to live her life like a normal 22 year old. Her actions since 2017 have sung a very different tune.

After very public displays of affection with exes Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, it was almost six months before anyone found out she was dating actor Joe Alwyn. The two of have never been officially photographed together, or shared photos of themselves together on social media. They have not spoken up about being a couple in a public setting, but they have been photographed on outings by paparazzi and other onlookers. Is that the secret to their 2.5 year romance? It’s certainly the longest for Swift and yet she still glows with happiness. No doubt there have been hardships over the romance, but none that have ever come to light. They have learned how to navigate a world tour for the singer, along with insane movie schedules for the budding actor. Swift has also tapped back into her acting skills, her movie adaption of the Broadway Musical Cats comes out later this year.

Ahead of turning 30, Swift offers advice of the things she’s learned since then, 30 things in fact. While reading, I found myself agreeing with how important these things are, lessons I’ve learned as someone who has also entered their 30’s. She’s learned the importance of blocking out the hate, focusing on what matters, stressing about the real struggles in life and learning which relationships are meant to last and which have had their time in the sun.

Here are the lessons she learned broken down:

1. She had to turn off her Instagram comments to block out the hate she was receiving in order to leave a healthier life. Unfortunately that means that friends and family can’t also comment, but in the end sanity is worth it. (Years ago I had to turn off anonymous messages on my tumblr after receiving a lot of hateful comments. It’s amazing how quickly those comments disappear when suddenly people have to put their name to the comment). The takeaway? If something is causing you stress, step away from it. We’ve had to see many celebrities take a break from social media due to the constant negativity. Nobody needs that amount of stress in their life.

2. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, even if you are normally a nice person. Sometimes you have to speak up so you aren’t taken advantage of.

3. Life is about learning lessons, that means failing sometimes. Get back up and try again. We learn by making mistakes.

4. Every body is different, learn to love yours and stop trying to be so perfect.

5. Sometimes you have to press the block button, not only on social media but also in your personal life. (Sometimes that might even mean blocking a family member if they are causing you stress and anxiety in an unhealthy way).

6. Everyone gets older, embrace the changes that come with it, including physical signs of again. It’s never too early to start moisturizing!

7. Her biggest fear is for the physical safety of herself and her fans. She recently had another person break into her apartment after being arrested for previously breaking in and taking a shower and sleeping in her bed. She tries to not let this fear run her life so that she can still live.

8. Create your own values and stop valuing what others think so much. You don’t have to create the Instagram perfect picture or relationship. Your life is yours and no one else’s. Your happiness is what matters.

9. She learned how to make some easy cocktails because 2016 (think Calvin Harris/ KimYe/ Snake)

10. She learned some good recipes for dinner parties and puts her own flare on them.

11. Command tape saves your walls from holes.

12. Apologizing to someone you hurt sincerely can save your relationships and friendships.

13. Believe sexual assault victims.

14. It’s ok not to know how to respond to someone when they are going through a hard time, but it’s not ok to disappear from their life when they need you.

15. Vitamins make you feel so much better!

16. Get to know someone before starting a relationship, first impressions aren’t everything and they won’t make for a lasting relationship.

17. Don’t sleep in your makeup, take care of your face and moisturize!

18. We all have things that were hard in our childhood, whether it was being bullied or feeling alone, be aware of how you act when those things no longer affect you, for they might be happening to someone else.

19. Tell people how you feel and don’t play mind games. No one is a mind reader.

20. People are sometimes only in your life for a season. It’s hard to let them go, but you’ll always have the lessons learned and memoires.

21. It’s ok to experiment with your fashion choices and hair!

22. When you’re fighting with someone, focus less on winning and more on understanding. You don’t get prizes for winning, just a lost relationship.

23. There will always be people who want the best for you and don’t want to see you fail. Surround yourself with those people.

24. Be aware of the real problems in life, for Swift, it’s the return of her mother’s cancer. She focuses her stress and worry and prayers on that.

25. You can still make amazing music while being in love.

26. Make countdowns for things you are excited about. Sometimes we need things to look forward to.

27. When someone is bullying you, learn how to laugh it off. (Think giant inflatable snake after Kim K. called her one, along with the rest of the internet).

Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” Music Video References All the Criticism She’s Gotten in the Last Decade

Holy SWIFT! If you thought you were prepared to watch Taylor Swift‘s iconic music video for “Look What You Made Me Do, the lead single of her 6th studio album Reputation, you definitely were not! There was so much in it, that it definitely requires watching the video on repeat!

WATCH TAYLOR SWIFT’S “LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO” MUSIC VIDEO

Now, that you’ve watched the video one more time, let’s discuss all the details!! Of course, the mastermind that is Taylor Swift, there is probably so much more we are missing, but here’s what we caught…

Let’s start from the beginning and work our way through ’til the end! Sit tight, there’s a lot to cover!

The video starts off in a graveyard, and if you listen to the song, you know why… the old Taylor Swift is dead. The tombstones line up to spell out TS, nice.

Screen Shot 2017-08-27 at 10.11.29 PM

Then we get a close-up of the grave that reads “Here Lies TAYLOR SWIFT’S REPUTATION,”  which is also the name of her new album, out November 10. The significance? The video addresses basically everything the media has said about Swift over the last decade.

tumblr_ovdheb9cd21r5egopo3_540

We are then scared out of our minds as “Out Of The Woods” music video Taylor climbs out of the grave. The old Taylor that found herself apparently died but is now back from the dead to set the record straight.

tumblr_ovdioi2xyn1roxle0o5_540

For real though, she might really be the actress starring in our bad dreams.

We also catch a glimpse of another tombstone that reads “Nils Sjoberg” which is the pseudonym name she used to hide the fact she wrote ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris‘ song “This Is What You Came For.” After trying to hide the fact, and getting stabbed in the back, Swift has probably learned her lesson and won’t be letting other people get the credit for her work.

Screen Shot 2017-08-27 at 10.25.16 PM

So we start off with “Out Of The Woods” Taylor which was the last official music video made for the 1989 era. (“New Romantics” was a tour video). OOTW Taylor is burying ‘Met Gala’ Taylor which was the Taylor at the beginning of the 1989 era. We quickly flash to a “Blank Space” Taylor who is sitting in a bathtub full of pearls, as she explains that the media (“Blank Space” is a satirical song about the way the media perceives Taylor) just assumes that she “cries in a marble bathtub surrounded by pearls.” (Anyone who thinks this scene is mocking Kim Kardashian‘s robbery, is literally sick in the head and needs to educate themselves.)

It got pretty out of control there for a couple of years. Every article was like ‘taylor swift standing next to some guy– watch out guy!’. Every single article had these descriptions of my personality that were very different from my actual personality. My first reaction was ‘man that’s a bummer, this isn’t fun for me’. But my second reaction ended up being ‘hey, that’s actually an interesting character they’re writing about… like she jets sets around the world, collecting men and she can get any of them but she’s so clingy that they leave and then she cries in her marble bathtub surrounded by pearls.

tumblr_ovdhkotgwh1vpocsro4_r1_540

You know what Taylor Swift is really doing in her bathtub? Plotting her next move. Another fun thing you might have missed? Taylor Swift clapping in the reflection! WHAT?!

clapp

You’ll also notice there is a single dollar in the bathtub. The significance? Taylor Swift’s sexual assault trial where she won a single dollar against her attacker, David Mueller.

Jury Finds David Mueller Guilty of Sexual Assault and Battery Towards Taylor Swift

We are then taking to Swift’s throne where she sits as Snake Queen. After all, it is the title they have given her, isn’t it? Swift has fully taken back the insults she has been receiving and throwing them right back, proving that she can take the heat and dish it out. Just like she said in her trial “I have an uncanny ability to elicit new criticism.”

tumblr_ovdioi2xyn1roxle0o1_540

Let’s not oversee the fact the snakes are literally pouring the tea! We bet it’s piping hot! We also can’t skip over the fact that “Et Tu Brute” is inscribed in her throne and the pillars in this snake room! It translates to “and you, Brutus?”, made famous in the play Julius Caesar, where it is uttered by the Roman dictator Julius Caesar to his friend Marcus Brutus at the moment of the former’s assassination.

So what’s the meaning here? Swift has been backstabbed by people she thought she was close to and friends with. This video means so much more than just a few people the song seems to take aim at. The video largely is directed at the media and the way the general public perceives Swift and targets her. So this reference can yes be related to Kanye, Kim and even Katy. But it can also refer to the friends who have left her side and shown their true colors.

We are next taken to a car crash! Where Swift is dressed as a super famous/rich pop star. Couldn’t help but think she looks a lot like Katy Perry here, but KP doesn’t have any GRAMMYs (we went there). She’s wearing a snake dress (coincidence? we think not) and a leopard fur which reminds us of Kim K.

tumblr_ovdglr3DVx1thol7zo1_540-2

What could this mean? Well, let’s discuss the whole scene. First, we have a yellow car that looks similar to the one KP drove in “Waking Up In Vegas” but it’s not the same brand. (Fun fact, Joseph Kahn also directed that video). We know Swift could get her hands on the same type of car if she wanted, which also throws out the theory that she’s driving a Maserati down a dead end street (like a lyric from her song “Red.”) Some thought it was justice for her album Red not winning a GRAMMY. Again, we have to think that if she wanted that specific imagery, she would have gotten the car. So maybe, it’s a combination of both things, plus more! What do we mean?

tumblr_ovdkz2fV151uz79t0o3_500

Well, in the scene, after crashing, there is a swarm of paparazzi taking photos of the crash, no one checking to see if the Pop Star Taylor is actually alright. Very symbolic of the fact that her personal life and well being is constantly invaded, but no one seems to mind. So this scene can’t really be boiled down to just one meaning, because as with this entire video, there is a lot going on in every second, again there’s still stuff we’re still probably missing!

We also notice that after the crash, she just sort of sits there and lets them take her picture. She has been accused of setting up paparrazi (played by her tour dancers!) photos! But that’s not all, what happens next? The car blows up and Pop Star Taylor walks away unscathed from the media, with her pet leopard wearing a 13 necklace and all (yeah, she did that!).

tumblr_ovdju257mo1w90l7co7_540

So while everyone takes their shots (literally and figuratively) Pop Star Taylor walks away from them, ready to live her best life (out of the media’s view).

Let’s jump now to the Birdcage scene where Swift is swinging. The cage is surrounded by body guards, which is much like her life. She’s confined and the amount of space she’s in is closing in on her. It’s not very big after all, and a bird does need to spread its wings.

tumblr_ovdju257mo1w90l7co4_540

This is the part of the song Swift sings “I don’t like your kingdom keys / They once belonged to me / You asked me for a place to sleep / Locked me out and threw a feast.”

She then has a lobster feast, joined by a rat. Symbolic much?

tumblr_ovdl69jeI91qzbx7io9_r1_540.gif

As Urban dictionary says a rat is the lowest form of a human being, a backstabber. Which is also the line in the song we have been guessing makes this song so much more than about a few people, but a broader range. Swift’s attention to the smallest details is really mind blowing. Some take this line of the song to mean that Swift was on top and someone took that away from her so she’s being petty…. but no, what she’s most likely saying here is that there are people whom she was once close with, she did things for and then like the Et Tu Brute suggests, backstabbed her. So now the keys that they both shared (keys could be symbolic of actually sharing a place together or that could be too literal and it could just be a greater imagery of sharing something with someone and them taking it away and keeping it for themselves), are no longer both of theirs, but the other’s. They turned on her (locked her out) and celebrated her downfall. Some would like to think that this line is a reference to KP and how she took her dancers and the feast is a reference to KP’s song “Bon Appétit.” Although that could work, we know that Taylor Swift is a lyrical genius and mastermind and the actual meaning behind her lyrics are sometimes too complex to even figure out. That and as much as KP fans are hung up on everything she now does being shade against KP, Swift isn’t targeting her in every move. Could she be included in this generalization? Absolutely, but again, we believe this song, like the video suggests, is about so much more than just those that appear to be obvious.

Next, we see Cat mask wearing Taylor, in a vault, while the video does flashbacks, to make it easier, we will combine all of the scenes of this kind and future kinds together (so as to not jump back and forth). Why cat masks? Well, there is a robbery going on, so masks are needed right? After all, Taylor Swift is a cat lady, right?

tumblr_ovdg43oghL1ts9leuo2_540

Poor cat-lady Taylor will never find love like her sweater suggests because she is just “Blinded For Love.” Isn’t that what the media says about her? There’s even an engagement ring looking box behind crazy-cat Taylor. How many articles have we seen where just a few weeks after dating, some unnamed source is talking about how Taylor says “He’s the one.” Well played Cat lady Taylor. Guess she just dodged a bullet or lost the love of her life (“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” lyrics).

We also can’t help but notice there are a lot of 3’s appearing in this video. The bars are all in sets of 3, the fallen handcuffs off the briefcase, also look like a three. There are three watches in the bathroom scene, on the floor and later in the video even three cars that come in together. Could it be because it’s been 3 years since her last album and now she gets to share her side of things after so long?

The best part of this version of Taylor is that before leaving the vault, she is seen burning money. She was called money hungry and greedy after all, for trying to pull her music from streaming services like Spotify. The CEO asked, “Isn’t 6 million enough?” But Swift fought back against streaming services like Spotify and then Apple, for all the songwriters who needed a bigger and better compensation, because she has a voice that can make an impact.”

tumblr_ovdioi2xyn1roxle0o3_540

It gets even better, as she walks out of the vault and we see “Stream.co” flashing behind her. Yes, she just robbed a streaming service. Again, Swift is making fun of all the headlines about herself. No one makes fun of Taylor Swift, like Taylor Swift makes fun of Taylor Swift!

tumblr_ovdmd6D4WO1roxle0o1_540

We flash to a scene of Biker Taylor. Which reminds us of the look from one of her “Bad Blood” music video characters, and the fact there were also motor bikes in that video.

Some have been confused by this scene, thinking it could possibly be related to the lawsuit she got against Lucky 13 which is a clothing/biker company. While that could be a correlation, it could also be related to the “edgy look” articles posted about her whenever she steps out in something that isn’t a sundress. Satire at it’s greatest. Of course, again, it could also have a scene from Bad Blood Taylor, because after all, we still got some don’t we?

Next, we come across Cult Leader Taylor and her perfect Squad Army she has built. With headlines like “Taylor Swift’s Squad Had Become A Cult” and “Lorde Says Taylor Swift’s Squad Isn’t Some “Secret Cult” it makes sense!

tumblr_ovdf9tg0qK1wqfv6fo2_540

Also, did you notice her cat on the screens? That also later change to “Squad U”? Olivia Benson deserves better!

Screen Shot 2017-08-29 at 8.01.48 PM.png

The media and regular folk have said how Taylor Swift’s “Squad” are all just these perfect models who have to do whatever she says. Once again, taking back the narrative. Here she is mocking the media, mocking her.

Later, we flash to a scene of Cult Taylor sourrounded by her Squad all laying down beside her with body parts falling off (they’re mannequins after all). We think this symbolizes how the media was pitting her friends against her and saying how the “Squad Was Falling Apart.”

tumblr_ovdhkotgwh1vpocsro2_540

Next, we step into another iconic part of the video where Sexy Taylor busts through the door and all 8 men stop whatever they are doing and jump to her beck and call. How cute is Todrick running in those heels? Could the number of men symbolize the number of high profile exes Swift has had over the last decade? Genius.

tumblr_ovdioi2xyn1roxle0o4_540

It seems pretty convincing, the moment she snaps her fingers and they all take off their coats to reveal I <3 TS Crop Tops. The irony? Swift got dragged last summer when her then boyfriend Tom Hiddleston was seen wearing an I <3 TS tank top while out at the beach (he’s gotta protect that English skin!). Guess Taylor has all these men brainwashed too!

Let’s take a moment to appreciate these dance moves. Girl has been working it out!!!

http://tayloreputationswift.tumblr.com/post/164693266107

We also see Reputation Taylor cutting the wings off the plane. We think she is sending a direct message to fans and media who track her plane. The girl is just trying to live! Stop giving out her location!!

Now we come to the climax of the video. Reputation Taylor is now standing on top of all the old versions of herself. They all try to climb their way to the top, but get knocked down, because the old Taylor is dead. RIP old Taylors.

This is also the part of the song where she starts singing “I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me, I’ll be the actress starring in your bad dreams.” If we dig deeper we might find that every old version of Taylor is symbolic of the fact that she has changed and evolved over the years. That perhaps, maybe she was trying to be who people thought she should be, and each era she got a little more to being her true self. Either way, she is kicking the old versions of herself and her old reputations to the curb and starting new, bold and fierce with give no f*cks Taylor.

So often as we get older we look back at younger versions of ourselves and can’t help but think, ‘wow, I can’t believe I used to be that naive or this or that.’ They no longer ‘rep’resent who we are, but they are always a part of who shaped us into who we became. We have to go through all of those phases in our life, the good, the bad and the ugly to make us who we are.

We then are taken to the end of the video where we see 15 different versions of Swift. There are also 15 songs on Swift’s next album Reputation. We are pretty pumped for the Reputation album and can’t wait to analyze all of those songs and see what kind of sound she puts out!!

tumblr_ovdkz2fV151uz79t0o4_500.gif

Here’s a post in GIF form that covers the ending of the video, in which Swift mocks herself, the way the media has mocked her. With her shocked/surprised face after she won so many awards. When Kanye referred to her as “that Bitch” in his song “Famous” which she never okayed. The fact she can’t possibly be as nice as she makes herself and clearly it’s an act. How she always plays the victim and never takes responsibility for her role in things (clearly people have never listened to “Back To December.” She then starts collecting receipts to edit later, maybe like how Kim K recorded her conversation and edited it to show it how she wanted? Receipts is also a good word since it’s the image KP used on her song “Swish Swish” and also put in the lyrics “Your game is tired / You should retire / You’re ’bout cute as / An old coupon expired / And karma’s not a liar / She keeps receipts.” Lastly, we have Fearless Era Swift in the outfit where Kanye stormed the stage during her acceptance speech, saying “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative.” (Which Swift wrote in a notepad she posted to social media after the song’s release. I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one I never asked to be a part of.” ) Then all of the other Taylor’s shout simultaneously “Shut Up!” How many times have we heard people saying that? How she just needs to stop talking about certain things, or bringing them up and playing the victim.

What was your favorite part of the video? A song that has broken nearly every record since its release! The video also broke the record for most VEVO views (previous record was 27.7 million) and most youtube views in a day with over 42 million views (previous record was 38.4 million). “Look What You Made Me Do” Is also the first song to ever have all 187 pop radio adds! It broke the mediabase records by having the entire panel! AMAZING! It broke the Spotify record, it was the fastest single to go #1 by a female artist, you name it, “Look What You Made Me Do” broke it!

Take a look at some of the headlines over scenes from the video!

http://palegingerbabies.tumblr.com/post/164709550578/mosaicbroknhearts-look-what-you-made-me-do

There were so many other little details in the video that we just couldn’t find the room to discuss! It’s like playing where’s waldo? Can you spot all the 13s? Or the cats? There’s even one running at the end, past the line of Taylors. The Junior Jewels shirt with a lot of her friends names on it! (and no, we don’t think anyone missing means they aren’t close, as a lot of names were absent, there could have been some on the back that weren’t seen as well.” Did you see the back of the plane say TS6? (as it has been referred to for the last few years since it was expected but yet untitled!) Or the 13 that flashed near the front of the plane?  How Zombie Taylor’s arm falls off? How Shake it off Ballerina Taylor falls like she does in the music video?

WOW There’s so much more to talk about and this is just one of 15 songs. Get ready Taylornation, we’re in for a ride!

Taylor Swift Isn’t Holding Back on New Single “Look What You Made Me Do” – Listen and Discuss!

Taylor Swift is back and she is not holding back in her first single “Look What You Made Me Do” off her highly anticipated 6th studio album Reputation. While many might have thought her new album would talk about her romance with Calvin Harris whom she dated for over a year, the song actually swipes back at (mostly) the Kanye West and Kim Kardashian beef.

This was obvious from her promo with the snakes since that’s the whole reason she was being called one. She fully embracing the criticism, so much so that’s she’s selling snake merchandise! There’s one way to turn a negative into a positive.

LISTEN TO TAYLOR SWIFT’S NEW SINGLE “LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO”

The song was written by Taylor Swift with co-writes by Jack Antonoff and Right Said Fred  even earned credit whose song was sampled “I’m Too Sexy.”

Let’s take a look at the lyrics!

Lyrics:

I don’t like your little games
Don’t like your tilted stage
The role you made me play
Of the fool, no, I don’t like you
I don’t like your perfect crime
How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn’t cool, no, I don’t like you (oh!)

*Note* It feels like in the first verse she is definitely swiping at Kimye. His titled tour stage, the fact he called her a “Bitch” in his song and Kim releases secretly recorded phone calls but not the entire thing (made her look like a fool). It’s a pretty good mix of half West and half Kardashian in the first verse.

[Pre-Chorus]
But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!

*Note* The pre-chorus seems like a warning of what’s to come. She rose up from the dead, and does it all the time. How many times has she been attacked in the media? Dragged by countless verified twitter users and other influential people? Then the last two lines of the pre-chorus mentions there is a list of names, so it’s not just 1-2 people here who have hurt her, abused her, used her and betrayed her. But West already hurt her once, when he stormed the stage during the 2009 VMAs. CHeck one. They made up and then he releases a vulgar song about her. Check two (mate).

[Chorus]
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
[Verse 2]
I don’t like your kingdom keys
They once belonged to me
You ask me for a place to sleep
Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)
The world goes on, another day, another drama, drama
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing’s for sure
Maybe I got mine, but you’ll all get yours

*Note* Verse 2 might enter a completely different occurrence with different people/person. Could it be about her past romance? It would seem justifiable. Or could it be about other friends who have betrayed her? It could collectively be about multiple people, Swift does love a little mystery.

Here’s a fun tidbit though. Swift samples the song “Operate” from Peaches which is a song that also plays in the movie Mean Girls. Let’s not forget Katy Perry once tweeted not to trust the “Regina George in sheep’s clothing” in reference to Swift.

As Swift points out, Karma is real.

That’s why this song isn’t necessarily just about one person. It’s a warning of things to come. There are 15 tracks on this album and it’s clear Swift isn’t in sheep’s clothing anymore.
[Bridge]
I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I’ll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams
I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I’ll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams
I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I’ll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams
I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I’ll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams
(Look what you made me do)
(Look what you made me do)
“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now.”
“Why?”
“Oh ’cause she’s dead!”

Look out world. She’s coming and she doesn’t care what you think.

Taylor Swift’s is About to Show The World What They Don’t See With New Album ‘Reputation’

Holy Swift, a new era is upon us! Taylor Swift announced her 6th studio album which officially has a name, Reputation. The album is due out November 10th, exactly 3 years after the release of her single “Blank Space.” The significance? “Blank Space” was all about the “Taylor Swift” the media saw and portrayed. They made her out to be this crazy/boy obsessed dating machine. Although we don’t know much about Reputation, here’s what we do:

Swift started the promo to her new album by releasing parts of a snake video. The final video revealed that it was indeed a snake! The significance? After some Kimye drama last year, Swift’s social media accounts were flooded with Snake emojis. In other words, they were saying Swift is two faced, a backstabber, sneaky and deceptive.

Swift didn’t come to play and is known for taking something negative and turning it into a positive. Just take her song “Mean” for example. It was inspired by a journalist who tore Swift to shreds after her GRAMMY performance with Stevie Nicks, who normally sung her praises. Swift went on to receive two GRAMMYs for that song. Iconic.

What else do we know about Reputation? Well, the font used is the same that Kanye West used for his album Life of Pablo. Swift is not taking this one lying down. After West wrote an explicit song saying that she owed him sex, because he made her famous, and calling her explicit words, she is taken back the narrative.

The album cover also features a very confident Swift. She isn’t backing down, she isn’t covering her face. Her bangs have been slicked back, she’s staring at everyone head on. Half her face is also covered in newspaper font, which could quite possibly refer to all of the media and headlines about her that are only filled with half-truths.

Swift’s social media outlets were recently wiped clean, everything from Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram and even her official website. The coding on her website said “IveGotABlankSpace” with more coding that said “ThatsWhatTheyDontSee” which are lyrics from her song “Shake It Off.” Both songs were in reference to the media, and haters and judgment. So who exactly is the Taylor Swift the public doesn’t see? She’s about to let the world know on November 10, 2017 when her 6th studio album drops!

Her new single “Look What You Made Me Do” is out now! Watch the lyric video:
