Shayla Souliere Shares The Inspiration Behind Her Song “Screw U”

Meet up and coming pop singer, Shayla Souliere, who is from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Back in 2012, she was accepted into a singing contest called “Edmonton Undiscovered,” It was there where Souliere found her true passion in life, music. In late 2013, she came into contact with Grammy-nominated producer/songwriter Alex Cantrall (he has produced/wrote for Beyonce, P!NK, Jojo and more). He took Souliere on as an artist and has been mentoring her ever since!

 

Flash forward to July 2015 when Souliere teamed up with director, Nayip Ramos, to shoot her music video for her latest single, “Screw U.” With the release of “Screw U” on her YouTube channel in December 2015, the song has gained some notable attention. “Screw U” landed Souliere radio play and interviews with some major radio stations including her hometown radio station, Z99 Regina. The song has also gained some exposure on the popular app, Musical.ly. There, many fans and even some major artists have created musical.ly’s to the song. “Screw U” is an energetic, catchy song that gives a big screw U to past relationships.

Souliere talks about where the inspiration for the song came from:

“For my single “Screw U” I collaborated with my songwriting/production team Alex Cantrall, Jeff Hoeppner, and Rhett Fisher. We recorded this at ES Audio Recording Studio in Burbank, CA. We all sat in the studio and I mentioned to the guys that I had some friends going through issues with their boyfriends and that everyone goes through times in their life where they aren’t getting along with someone or someone’s really annoyed them. That was when we thought up the idea of “Screw U.”

“Screw U” is definitely a song that you do not want to be on the wrong end of. Keep an eye out for future releases from Souliere and for future covers that will be posted to her YouTube channel.

Amanda Jones Releases “Brand New Day” Music Video – Watch

Oregon based pop singer/songwriter Amanda Jones has been performing since she was 13 years old! Now at 21, she continues to build her fanbase and create opportunities for her music to be heard. She even had the opportunity to open for R5 feat. Ross Lynch in the summer of 2015!

Jones has now released her first music video following her Brand New Day EP. The title track makes the perfect music video to a song that will instantly have listeners hooked. It’s message is positive and hopeful of all the goodness that each new day has to offer. Jones reflects:

“Brand New Day” has a fun, summery pop vibe that instantly gets stuck in your head. The song is about feeling stuck in the same routine and wanting change- and then seeing that it’s a new day and you can do anything and be anything, and that things are finally working out. It’s a very positive song, and as an artist I aim to send an uplifting message through everything I create.”

There are three song on Jones’ self–titled EP which she described in a recent interview:

The EP is a good mix of every type of song I wanted to release. We have “Brand New Day”- the fun, uplifting pop song. Then there is “Wait for Me Tonight”- a pop ballad about heartbreak. Concluding the EP is “My Goodbye” which is acoustic, and about loss. My cousin died suddenly in a car crash 4 years ago, and writing this song was my way of coping with his loss and starting the healing process. It’s a very personal song, and it’s been amazing to see how much it has impacted others in a positive way. It’s always incredible to hear people’s personal stories of loss, and how the song helped them through tough times. That makes everything worth it for me.

It’s [the EP] a great mix and [the songs] flow well together. “My Goodbye” means the most to me, but “Brand New Day” really captures the sound I’ve been searching for with my music for a long time.

Jordyn Mallory Makes A Splash With “Boat Friend” Video – Watch!

Jordyn Mallory is no stranger to music videos, you can find her in superstar Jason Aldean’s Music Video for “Dirt Road Anthem.” Now at 24 years old, she’s releasing her own music video for her debut single “Boat Friend.” Mallory has been paving her way into the music industry any way she could. She was a part of Simon Fuller‘s If I Can Dream and was also on American Idol. Since then, she has moved to Nashville and has a publishing deal. Mallory has songwriting cuts with Kip Moore and Dan Couch. Additionally, she has opened for Loretta Lynn, Emerson Drive, Jake Owen and more.

The song “Boat Friend” is a Pop infused song with a hint of southern style about having fun in the summer. It has the catchy hook, “I don’t want a Boyfriend, I just want a Boat friend.” The song is all about enjoying being single during he summer and just having a blast!  The video fits the song perfectly as it shows Mallory and her friends having a dance party on a boat and cruising he lake. The video was shot at Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN.

“Boat Friend” was inspired by a conversation that took place with her friends, Mallory recalls:

Two summers ago, I was in a Jeep with my girlfriends when one of the girls said ‘I really wanna be single this summer but we need to find some guys with a boat,’ and I said ‘You don’t want a boyfriend, you need a boat friend.’ Everyone laughed and I immediately knew I was going to write that song.

This has been a big year for Mallory who released her self-titled EP earlier this year. The 4 song EP showcases her fresh young sound as well as her songwriting ability. The songs all paint a picture of the life Mallory leads, from the song “Boat Friend” to “Southern Belle” she shows off her range and songwriting ability. “Boy To Blame” is about living life to the fullest and going out with your friends after a boy has done you wrong and sharing the experiences on Instagram. “Good Memory” could be considered a bookend to “Boy To Blame” the song is about looking back on nights spent with a past love, and how the memory is still crystal clear after all these years!

Cody Webb’s EP Track By Track!

Cody Webb is a new comer to Nashville, the singer songwriter released his self-titled EP in late July. The South Carolina native has a history of hunting, fishing, sports and of course music which are all reflected in his debut EP! When talking about his musical journey, Webb shares:

“I write a lot, It’s probably my biggest passion. When I moved to Nashville, I’d probably written 20 to 25 songs and I probably only still play one of them. This town takes songwriting so seriously and it has inspired that in me as well. Writing is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. As a musician, melody is probably my strongest suit, but there are days I can’t write lyrics fast enough. And then there are days when nothing is working. Whether you have that magic writing session where a song just falls out or you grind through an idea you’ve had for months, ending up with a song you’re proud of is the greatest reward there is. Or it seems like it is until someone else hears that song you wrote, feels exactly what you felt and sings it back to you from the audience. That bond you get with a fan through the songs … there’s nothing better.”

Webb started out as a guitar player playing gigs at fairs and festivals. He was inspired by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Hank Williams Jr during his early years and in college was introduced to more modern country music. Webb learned every note and word to Eric Church’s Sinners Like Me and Carolina albums. He credits Church’s music as one of the main influences that pointed him toward Country Music. That, paired with a trip to Nashville is what led him to become a songwriter as well. Webb quickly realized the city was filled with lots of guitar players and he needed to set himself apart. That influence is reflected in his EP, Cody Webb.

Webb’s entire EP is full of catchy, upbeat songs with strong hooks and memorable melodies. A majority of the songs are about love, but each song approaches a different aspect of the diverse subject. All of the songs are filled with slightly up tempo beats and reflects a sound that is heavy on guitar but blends everything together for a smooth sound.

“More Then A Little” the 1st track on the EP is all about the feelings on a first date and the feelings one experiences when they first fall for a person.

“She Ain’t Right” delivers one of the best hooks of the album in the form of the line Got my heart skipping beats like a scratched up CD . The song is all about a guy loving a girl who wants to have a good time and isn’t afraid to not fit the standard norm associated with females.

 
“My My My Girl” talks about a fairly new relationship but it finally reached the point where the guy in the couple is questioning whether the girl wants to be his.

 
“Love Me Like I’m Gone” is about treating a relationship like it’s a long distance one in order to keep the passion and spark alive.

 
“Nothin’ On You” is the simple story of a girl trying to find something to wear and her boyfriend simply listing things he likes as well as what he likes her wearing which is of course nothin’.

 
“Better At Night” Is all about how the magical moments between a couple happens in the nighttime. How things seem great in the sunshine but that they are even better once the sun goes down.

Mary Heather Hickman Explains Why You Shouldn’t Drink and “Dial”

You might be unfamiliar with 21 year old Country Artist Mary Heather Hickman, but her sound will soon have you wishing you had heard of her before. She does have a classic country sound to her voice, but she combines it with modern music and beats to blend both traditional and modern listeners. She has a vibe similar to Kacey Musgraves, and isn’t afraid about singing about her mistakes.

“Dial” offers some advice on not drinking and then calling up an ex boyfriend… that is a recipe for disaster.

Don’t drink and dial / You’ll call up your ex / And wake up the next morning / Hungover with regret / Take my advice / It ain’t worth the rush / Throw your phone out the window / When you feel that buzz

Hickman is currently writing and collaborating with songwriters in Nashville. She told Variety Beat the inspiration behind her song “Dial”

I think people can connect with ‘Dial’ because it’s a song that we all see ourselves in. Most people can relate to having a drink or two and calling or texting an ex boyfriend, and then regretting it the next morning. I wrote this song after a particularly funny incident with a friend. She does know she was the inspiration for this song and we laugh about it to this day.
