First Annual Party For A Cause Festival Recap

With the ACM Party For A Cause Festival just a few short days away, I thought it might be fun to post a recap of my very first PFAC experience! Prior to the introduction of this multiple day star-studded music filled event, there were free shows on Freemont Street at night during The Week Vegas Goes Country. While those free shows continued during the 2013 ACM Week, they were discontinued the following year.

ACM experience

The first annual Party For A Cause Festival was hosted at The Orleans Hotel and took place Friday April 5th and Saturday April 6th, 2013. This event provided fans with an entire “ACM Experience,” as well as introducing fans to some philanthropic causes including Outnumber Hunger and the Wounded Warrior Project. The ACM Expo was free, but you had to pay to get to the festival inside to see the artists performances.

Just look at the list of autograph signings and performances! Such a FULL packed schedule of country music FUN for the fans!

Day 1, Friday 3/5/13:

Performances by Cassadee Pope, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, and headlining the first night was The Band Perry!

2013 was also the first year that Luke Bryan co-hosted the Awards Show with Blake Shelton, replacing his previous co-host Reba McEntire. The Academy cleverly named this duo “Bluke” and there were “Flat Blake’s” and “Flat Luke’s” passed out at the festival.

Along with this, there was also an amazing contest to win PIT TICKETS at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards!!

The First Annual Party For a Cause Festival is also where I met the owner of this website, Jencita. I had orginally found her on Twitter, met her in person in Vegas… and now, 3 years later, we will be road-tripping together to Vegas for the 4th Annual Party For A Cause Festival!

As you can see from that photo, night had fallen. I had won myself a pair of VIP bracelets to Kip Moore‘s late night performance at Freemont Street, so I had to hurry back to the hotel and change and get ready to see one of my favorite artists up close from the pit! Freemont Street was insane, so many people because there were such great artists, all performing for free! It was just a matter of how early you wanted to get there so you could be close enough to see! I definitely miss that aspect of ACM Week!

Day 2, Saturday 4/6/13

Day 2 of the party hosted Dustin Lynch, Love and Theft, Kix Brooks, Lee Brice, Hunter Hayes, Eli Young Band and headliner Dierks Bentley.

The First Annual Party For A Cause Festival was obviously such a success that they are still continuing the tradition 3 years later. If you are heading there this year, make sure to check out our Party For A Cause Survival Guide!

Which artist performance or event are you most excited for this year?! Besides the opportunity to see and meet some of my favorite artists, I’m kind of most excited for the free Red Bull as you leave the festival gates at night to give me some energy for some late night fun! It will also be my first chance to see Maren Morris, Chris Lane, Chris Janson and Granger Smith. I’m very excited to see all of them for the first time!

ACM Awards Spotlight: New Male Vocalist Of The Year

The ACM Awards are right around the corner and there is a new category this year- ‘New Male Vocalist of the Year.’ Previous years have had both males and females in the ‘New Artist’ category. This year there were just too many emerging new artists worth recognizing! Another change this year is that it is no longer a fan-voted award. (But don’t worry; you can cast YOUR vote in our poll below!)CaIrGa_UsAEWZur

This award is presented to an outstanding individual male vocalist in the country music industry who gains either initial fame or significantly greater recognition, through efforts surrounding the promotion of a debut or sophomore album, during the prior calendar year of November 2014 to November 2015. The artist must have success in digital media; in addition to having charted a single record in the Top 40 and/or selling 100,000 album units.

The nominees for the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards are:

Brett Eldredge was nominated both in this ‘New Male Vocalist’ category as well as the ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ category this year. Eldredge has recorded two studio albums and spent the first half of 2015 touring with Darius Rucker on the “Southern Style Tour” and then teamed up with Thomas Rhett to co-headline the “CMT: Suits & Boots Tour”. Eldredge is known for his down to earth personality and hilarious snapchats (add BrettEldredge on snapchat if you haven’t yet!) as well as his soulful passion and amazing vocals. His current single, “Drunk on Your Love” is currently sitting at number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Eldredge is joining Keith Urban on his “Rip Cord World Tour” this summer.

Chase Rice has quite a history. Starting out as a college football star at the University of North Carolina, he also had stints working as a Nascar pit crew member and was runner up on the TV show ‘Survivor: Nicaragua’ before he realized that his heart was in making music. Rice first made a name for himself in the music indusrty when Florida Georgia Line’s single “Cruise” reached #1, as he co-wrote this song. Rice has always done things his own way, starting off with creating his own record label Dack Janiels and gaining popularity over social media. He was selling out venues before even signing his first record deal or having a song on the radio! Fast forward a few years, radio hits like “How She Rolls”, “Gonna Wanna Tonight”, and “Ready Set Roll” have helped Rice earn a name for himself and now, recognition from the Academy of Country Music. His current single, “Whisper” is working its way up the charts.

Chris Janson broke out into the country music scene in 2015 with his #1 hit, “Buy Me a Boat”, but has a decade of songwriting and performing under his belt. Janson’s songs have been recorded by artists like Tim McGraw, Frankie Ballard, and Justin Moore. Janson’s new single “The Power of Positive Drinkin’” is currently sitting in the top 40 on the charts as he joins Blake Shelton on his 2016 tour. This story of over-night success is one that Janson certainly worked hard for; he started off signing a year-long contract to play 4 shows a day at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Nashville’s Lower Broadway. That hard work ethic, passion, and drive is what caught the attention of Warner Music Nashville, with whom he signed in 2015.

Chris Stapleton was a name that many had not heard of before his phenomenal performance and duet with Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards. Stapleton has a beyond impressive list of songwriting credits to his name, including 5 number-ones recorded by other artists. Stapleton released his debut album (as a solo artist) in May of 2015, earning him 3 CMA nominations, all of which he won! He recently acquired 4 Grammy nominations, taking home both ‘Best Country Album’ and ‘Best Country Solo Performance.’ Stapleton swept this year’s ACM nominations, with ‘New Male Artist of the Year’ being only one of the six total!

Thomas Rhett was previously a nominee for the ‘New Artist’ category last year, but an artist may be a nominee two times in a three-year period for this category. Rhett undoubtedly had a big year, releasing his second studio album, “Tangled Up”, teaming up with Brett Eldredge for “CMT on Tour: Suits & Boots Tour”, and TWO number one singles! Rhett is currently touring with Jason Aldean on his “We Were Here Tour.” His third single off his sophomore album, “T-Shirt” is currently making its way up the charts and has the biggest gain in digital sales this week according to Billboard!

Although this year’s ‘New Male Artist’ category is not fan voted, we want you to vote for your favorite right here!

Be sure to tune into CBS on Sunday April 3rd to see who the lucky winner is!

ACM Awards Spotlight: New Female Vocalist of the Year Nominees

The ACM Awards are right around the corner and there is a new category this year- ‘New Female Vocalist Of The Year.’ Previous years have had both males and females in the ‘New Artist’ category. This year there were just too many emerging new artists worth recognizing!

This award is presented to an outstanding individual female vocalist in the country music industry who gains either initial fame or significantly greater recognition, through efforts surrounding the promotion of a debut or sophomore album, during the prior calendar year of November 2014 to November 2015. The artist must have success in digital media; in addition to having charted a single record in the Top 40 and/or selling 100,000 album units.New Female Vocalist image

Kelsea Ballerini, Cam, Mickey Guyton & RaeLynn are the lucky nominees in the ‘New Female Vocalist of the Year’ category for the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards, airing on CBS on April 3rd.

Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini was a breakout artist in 2015, shattering records and being the first female artist to have a debut single (“Love Me Like You Mean It”) reach number one since Carrie Underwood in 2005 with “Jesus Take the Wheel.” Her down to earth personality resonates with fans, and she is one of the most genuine artists out there. Ballerini started off as a hopeful fan, waiting in line for concert tickets and waiting in line to meet her favorite artists (one of those being Taylor Swift). She adores meeting her fans, because she knows how exciting it was meeting her own idols. That is a grounding experience for any artist. Ballerini is silly and relatable and isn’t afraid to be herself, which makes her fans adore her even more. Kelsea is currently on tour with Billy Currington and will be joining Rascal Flatts this summer on their Rhythm & Roots Tour.

What a year it has been for newcomer Cam! Cam has arguably had the biggest debut single of the year with “Burning House.” 31-year-old Camaron Ochs goes simply by Cam, and her single “Burning House” even earned her a GRAMMY nomination. Cam took a risk with releasing a ballad and it really paid off. “Burning House” was actually prompted by a bad dream the singer had about an ex-boyfriend, and in turn is making her real dreams come true! Cam started off 2016 opening for Brad Paisley and this summer she will join Dierks Bentley on his Somewhere on a Beach Tour.

mickey guyton

Mickey Guyton has spent the past year performing at the Grand Ole Opry, touring with Brad Paisley, and releasing her debut song, “Better Than You Left Me.” While on tour with Paisley, each night she performed a beautiful rendition of “Whiskey Lullaby” which has helped expand her recognition and fan base. She’s appeared on many “Artists to Watch” lists for 2016, and with her first ACM nomination, she’s gaining momentum! At 21+ thousand twitter followers, she’s clearly on the radar of country music fans already!

Rae

RaeLynn first graced the world with her adorable presence in 2012 during season two of The Voice. After choosing Team Blake (Blake Shelton), she developed a close relationship with both Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who became mentors to the then 17 year old. Since then she has released an EP, “Me” and is most known for “God Made Girls” which reached top 10 on the country charts. In 2015, RaeLynn was an opener on Lambert’s Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour.  Raelynn was married last month to the man of her dreams, Joshua Davis, at a whimsical ceremony in Nashville with 300 guests.

Be sure to watch on April 3rd to see which lovely lady takes home the award and vote on who you want to see win!

ACM PARTY FOR A CAUSE SURVIVAL GUIDE

So you’ve got tickets to the 4th Annual ACM 3-Day Party for A Cause Festival in Las Vegas this year? There are a few changes being made this year, starting with ticketing! No more paper tickets, there will now be wristbands mailed out before the festival! (Please don’t forget these at home and make sure that you activate them before your trip!) Another cool thing about these wristbands is that you can actually use them to pay for food, beverages and select merchandise if you sign up for that service in advance! No need to worry about losing your credit card or cash anymore! Another upgrade this year is LOCKERS! This will be so helpful for stashing your cowboy boots when it gets too hot and you’re ready to switch to flip flops! Of course, there will also be unlimited charging stations, so please bring your multiple chargers for your phone, camera, or other electronic devices!

Here’s a checklist of essentials you will need:

1. Small backpack or purse or fanny pack. These will be searched, so please don’t try to sneak in anything stupid!

2. Sunscreen.  Make sure to reapply several times during the day!

3. One 20oz or smaller SEALED bottle of water. You will not be allowed to bring it in if it’s open! At least bring one to save you a few bucks, but please purchase more throughout the day, ESPECIALLY if you plan on drinking alcoholic beverages! Dehydration will ruin your ACM weekend.

4. Snacks. Technically there is no outside food allowed, however in the past I have snuck in a granola or protein bar due to the fact that I am literally hungry every 2 hours. MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T HAVE CHOCOLATE IN IT. Trust me. Melted chocolate in your bag/purse is NOT fun and it’s hot out there!  (I learned the hard way!) Maybe even a handful of nuts or anything with protein that will help tie you over in between chili cheese fries and pulled pork sandwiches!

5. Baseball cap, snapback, or cowboy hat. Helps keep your face from being sunburned!

6. Sunglasses. It’s pretty bright in the desert if you didn’t know; sunglasses can be a life saver from the bright Nevada sun!

7. Flip Flops. Wear tennies or your cowboy boots of course (ladies, no heels… you’re literally standing all day!) but make sure to pack a pair of flip flops because if temps reach the 80’s, you’re going to want to rip those socks and boots off your hot sweaty feet! Also, the addition of lockers this year makes this easy to store them away until it’s time to leave!

8. Non-professional Camera. No detachable lenses allowed. But cameras do tend to take better pictures than your cell phone if you’re a photo-geek like me! Also, remember to bring your battery charger since there will be charging stations available!

Embed from Getty Images

9. Cell phone and charger. You’re going to want to post to social media while there, as well as record videos and take photos I’m sure, and it’s sure to drain your battery. Plus, you’ve always got to turn your screen brightness up in the bright sun and this wears down your battery more quickly as well. Thank goodness for charging stations!

10. Portable battery charger. There’s going to be a time when 3 of your favorite artists play in a row and you glance down and notice you’re at 5% battery life. Backup battery chargers are great when you don’t want to have to leave your coveted front row spot and sit by the charging station with your phone for 20 minutes. Just plug it in and continue to use your phone!

11. Mini notepad or anything that you might want signed. CD leaflets, pre-printed photos, etc. Lots of artists will have set “Meet & Greet” times during the festival… some will have photos that they will sign to give you, some won’t. I’ve received a giant signed poster in the past, which got mauled by the end of the day, because it’s simply impossible to keep a rolled up poster safe in a rowdy crowd. Unless of course you’ve rented a locker! However, a mini notepad that you can store in your bag would solve this problem of carrying a bunch of autographed 8 x 10’s all day while trying to also not spill your drink on them and use your camera simultaneously.

12. Your ID or Passport. If you plan on enjoying an ice cold beer in the hot sun while listening to your favorite country act sing about drinking beer and partying, you’re going to need your ID to get an over 21 bracelet. The admission wristbands aren’t high tech enough to verify your date of birth!

13. Light sweater/cover up/sweatshirt. Once the sun goes down, it cools down a lot; especially in early April in the middle of the desert. Something that you can tie around your waist or squish into your bag is recommended.

14. Lawn Chair. If you prefer to sit to watch the show, there will be a space behind the “pit” area for low-back chairs. Although I’m more of a closest-to-the-stage kind of girl, having a chair set up does hold your place for when it’s time for a bathroom or food break! Plus, Saturday is going to be a long 12 hour day!

Some other helpful suggestions:

I’m usually just an over-prepared girlie girl, but other things that I stash in my purse for concerts and events like this include gum or mints (no one wants bad breath when meeting an artist), extra hair tie and brush (it’s super windy there!), chapstick or lipgloss, mini deodorant (you don’t want to smell sweaty meeting one of your favorite new artists!) and some extra “just in case” cash. Guys seriously have it so easy!
