“Humble &Kind” is making a return to the charts! The song which had success earlier this year with Tim McGraw, is being released by Lori McKenna who wrote the hit! McKenna, a singer/songwriter from Massachusetts who is a mother of 5, originally wrote the song as a list of things that she wanted her children to know. The song then took on a life of its own, when McGraw recorded it and took it to the top of the country charts! McKenna recalled the day she wrote the song, she told CMT about the experience.
“I’d dropped the little kids off at school and then came home. I keep a guitar in the dining room because it’s at the front of house, and I tend to sit there sometimes and look out the window at the people going by. I’m such a weird neighbor; I probably didn’t get out of my pajamas until I had to pick up the kids at 2:45. I always call those ‘spaghetti days,’ because spaghetti is the only thing I can cook in 15 minutes if I’m chasing a song. My family knows. I saw this as a very simple song, It’s three chords that repeat each other over and over. And once I realized I was rhyming with ‘kind,’ it was just plugging in the words. But Tim saw it as this worldly thing. I was like, ‘Man. It’s just an example of how two people can see something so differently. He saw it so much bigger than I did. And not just because I play it for shows with 200 seats and Tim plays it for shows with 20,000 seats. From the get-go, he just made it beautiful.”
McKenna is the first person since Taylor Swift to have a song that was written by a single person go number 1. Her version of “Humble & Kind” can be found on her album The Bird & The Rifle which is due out on July 29th! The album is available for pre-order on most digital retailers, with the pre-order comes instant downloads “Humble & Kind” and “Wreck You.”
